Original oil paintings
Original oil painting
Oil on canvas
50 × 40 cm
This painting was made just outside my studio.
It was the light falling across the trunk of the oak tree that caught my attention. I painted it beneath the tree, working quickly, knowing the sun would soon move and the beautiful contrast between shadow and sunlight would be gone.
I love painting directly in nature whenever I can. It opens my senses and shifts the way I see in a very particular way. As I often say, I paint what I see—and what I feel.
In this case, I’ve painted my muse: the oak tree in my garden.

Nature is magic, and magic is nature.
I created this painting just outside my studio. The bush seemed to call my name, and I stepped into it with all my senses open. With the brush in my hand, I felt a deep sense of connection.

I walk into the forest beneath a full moon.
An owl descends onto the path before me. I thank it and continue on, crossing to the far side of the woods.
There, I draw an invisible owl in the night air.
A moment later, it answers with its call.

I paint what I see and what I sense in nature.
These horses were grazing in a field just outside a yoga studio, where I spent a weekend in meditation. Through the large windows, I could watch their slow, calm movement in the Danish winter.
When I closed my eyes, I could feel them deep in my breath.
Later, back in my studio, I created a series based on these horses — this painting is one of them.

Throughout the years, I have returned to painting flower arrangements from time to time. I usually work in series, exploring one idea for at least two years before moving on to the next. The flower arrangements, however, exist outside of these series—they are a motif I keep coming back to.
This is one of my recent works. I’m drawn to the way we gather flowers to celebrate beauty, and equally to witnessing their quiet decay.
In this painting, I was particularly taken by the shadow falling across the white table.

I cycle into the forest to a place where I can see the sea.
I sit in the shade of a tree and paint on a piece of cardboard. It holds. I have sealed the surface, and the oil paint does not seep into the material.
Instead, it moves through my senses and my nervous system.
Slowly, I build a frame — a small window into eternity.

Outside my studio, I am surrounded by trees. This painting was created in their shade, with a view stretching out over a marsh.
I painted what I saw, in the colors that nature revealed through my gaze. Nature is magical.
When I look closely, everything I think I know begins to dissolve.
With a brush in my hand, I enter into a deep connection with the ancient world,
and with all the souls that inhabit this planet today.

About
I do not feel anxiety in my feet,
so I walk into the woods, seeking shelter.
An ancient relation where I feel complete.
So I draw the belonging—
the trees, my nervous system.

About
I draw trees the way I see them, and the way I sense them. We all come from our own roots.
